About Us

History

The Blue Ridge Quilters’ Guild met for the first time in 1982. In February 1983, we were formally incorporated in the State of Tennessee by our 38 founding members. The Guild flourished in the Northeast Tennessee community, holding quilting seminars and hosting quilt shows in Johnson City and Jonesborough.

Our organization has always been involved in community efforts, including helping students create a quilt for North Side Elementary School, creating Patient Room wall hangings at Johnson City Specialty Hospital, creating a quilt to commemorate the 150th Birthday of Johnson City, and now quilts for children in the court system.

Currently, we are more than 60 members strong and we encourage one another to step outside our comfort zones, to learn, to teach, and to support each other’s endeavors.

Purpose

The purpose of the Blue Ridge Quilters’ Guild is:

  • to preserve and promote the ancient art of quilt making;
  • to promote the improvement of skill in quilt making by hosting classes, seminars, and workshops;
  • to develop among quilters a better understanding of the principles of art, color, and design;
  • to encourage individuals to make, collect, and show quilts;
  • to encourage standards of excellence in quilt making;
  • to exchange ideas, knowledge, patterns, and skills through meetings and communications;
  • to encourage and maintain high ethical standards;
  • to give pleasure and share information with the non-quilting public;
  • and to enjoy the fellowship of other quilt makers.
